Get to know me

A message from Debbie

The biggest hurdle couples face is learning to communicate well. Helping people develop healthy coping and communication skills is important. I help couples learn to really listen to their partner and understand things from their perspective. I can see how these skills improve my client’s lives. You’ll both learn to become less defensive and more open to sharing your feelings. It makes all the difference in a successful marriage. One thing my clients truly appreciate about me is that I hold them accountable for their behavior without making them feel judged. This helps them focus on the changes they need to make without fear of recrimination and puts some positivity into the dynamic.

Feedback from my couples

Don’t wait! You’ll wish you had done this sooner.

We needed help and we knew we needed something out of the norm, something intense. Going bi-weekly or weekly wasn’t enough.

My hesitation was not knowing the therapist. We had to leave it to chance that she would be someone we could both learn from.

Debbie Woodall-Carroll showed empathy, patience, listening, and reframing. My husband came to see why I’m so scared of his actions. The light bulb turned on. Debbie was so easy to talk with.

We have a better understanding of each other, a better way to communicate, empathy and honesty.

What would you say to couples that are considering working with Couples Therapy Inc.?

Don’t wait! You’ll wish you had done this sooner. I urge you, for your happiness, to stop thinking about it and schedule it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, individually and together.

It is 1000% worth the tough days ahead

We were in a rocky situation as there was a recently discovered infidelity. We had begun the groundwork on our own of going through a therapy workbook geared toward infidelity recovery and had started having discussions of our own prior to our weekend.

We hadn’t done therapy prior to this experience. It was recommended to us by the therapy coordinator through my husband’s work that we find a therapist who is certified in the Gottman method. That helped us narrow down our search.

It was both brutal and healing to participate in the weekend. We dove headfirst into very tough conversations that were difficult to have. However, Debbie Woodall Carroll guided the conversations very gently and helped us feel safe in having them. We have learned to address issues head on as they arise rather than waiting and hoping they get better.

Although the conversations we had were very difficult, they were vital in getting us on a path to healing.

If you are committed to making your relationship work, it is 1000% worth the tough days ahead. It will feel like you take one step forward and two steps back for a little while, but it’s all part of the process. Each step forward is a huge milestone on your path to success.

It will be hard, but it will be worth it.

We had a pretty solid foundation to our relationship. We experienced an infidelity in our marriage, which shook our marriage to the core. The purpose of our therapy was to process the infidelity and create a plan to move forward.

The therapy coordinator through my husband’s employer suggested that we seek a therapist who uses the Gottman Method.

What hesitation did you have about starting couples therapy with us?

Nothing with starting through your practice, but more with starting in general. It was tough to talk through the difficult questions and we were nervous to being up such tough topics, but knew it was necessary.

It was brutal, but worth sticking through. We had put in some work on our own through the use of a couple’s workbook prior to therapy. Debbie guided us through some of the same questions we had discussed, but purposefully dug deeper and led us to a better understanding of the root causes of what led us to the infidelity. We appreciated that she balanced the excruciating conversations with more lighthearted activities. It encouraged us that we now know we can engage in difficult conversations at home and pull ourselves out of the pain of that topic with a more “light” topic.

We feel it helped us come to a better understanding of why things happened and what we can do to prevent it from recurring in the future.

What three benefits resulted from working with Couples Therapy Inc.?

Better communication techniques between us, weekly “state of the union” meetings to check in on one another, clarity of how we ended up where we were.

What would you say to couples that are considering working with Couples Therapy Inc.?

You can’t get through the tough stuff without the tough conversations. It will be hard, but it will be worth it.
