My boyfriend and I have been together for less than a year. Things are either really good or really bad and I want to see a couples therapist with him. He said that it’s ridiculous for us to see a therapist since we haven’t been together long, aren’t married, and don’t have kids. I can see his point but I do want things to work out. Is there a benefit to couples therapy if you’ve only been together for a short time?

No one likes to be on a roller coaster relationship. It is unsettling and makes people insecure.

A good assessment will tell you why your relationship goes through those upset and downs and how to prevent them now, before you both become exhausted.

Then you can decide if you want to learn how to work together differently.

You will find it easier to commit when you know how to smooth out the rough spots and which problems you have that are here to stay, no matter how long you stay together (hint: you can change only 31%, so make sure you can live with the rest…)

Whether you are dating, married or with children, it is wise to choose a lifelong mate very carefully and with your eyes wide open to what aspects of your relationship will last a lifetime. We can let you know.
