“To achieve a lasting loving bond, we have to be able to tune in to our deepest needs and longings and translate them into clear signals that help our lovers respond to us. We have to be able to accept love and to reciprocate.”

Get matched with the right couples therapist.

Choose the appropriate relationship expert for your needs. We can help. Our Client Services team is intimately acquainted with our therapists. They will assist you in finding the perfect match for your couples therapy getaway.

It's the best thing you can do for your relationship and worth every penny.

"Our relationship was in trouble and we scheduled the intensive as a last resort effort. We had some past issues that needed to be resolved and wanted to work on communication. We tried couples therapy briefly before Covid. I didn't have a good connection with the counselor.

Our therapist was amazing! We couldn't have asked for a better fit for both of our personalities than her. She was very intuitive about who we are as people and I left knowing myself better than I ever have. She is certainly gifted in providing insights into us as a couple and as individuals. She is just a phenomenal human being, and I am so thankful to have done this therapy with her.

We have committed to making our relationship work and continuing to use the specific skills and strategies she taught us. It was a game changer for my relationship and probably saved my marriage. It's the best thing you can do for your relationship and worth every penny.

OUR APPROACH

Why our approach works

Couples Therapy Inc. has a reputation for successfully impacting the most challenged couples through our comprehensive approach. We don't, however, accept all couples for treatment. *

We provide:

  •  A thorough evaluation,
  • Helpful structured feedback,
  • An opportunity to strengthen skills, and
  • A supportive environment to heal wounds.

Are you looking for a particular model?

Holding a certification in one couples therapy model is a unique accomplishment. However, no one theoretical approach can effectively help every couple. Our relationship specialists cross-train in multiple evidence-based treatments to deliver cutting-edge, innovative practice.

ABOUT US

What makes us different?

We are a team of 30+ clinicians dedicated to intensive couples therapy. We don't juggle weekly clients with the occasional couples weekend. Our sole focus is conducting these private, couples trust-building retreats and their aftercare.

Evidence-based Practice

Popular evidence-based therapies for couples include the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused, Solution Focused, and Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy. But even if one of these methods certifies our couples therapist, more is needed. We strengthen our expertise with training in multiple models to help troubled couples.

Comprehensive Assessment

It's an extensive and in-depth exploration of you and your relationship. It provides your therapist with essential information they'll need to help both of you. Your therapist will already have extensive knowledge about you and your relationship before you even meet.

It is comprehensive, but it ultimately saves time during your couples weekend retreat.

 INNOVATION Through Collaboration

We spend 20 hours a year fine-tuning our clinical skills in monthly meetings. Couples therapy intensives are an evolving approach, and we're on the cutting edge of innovation.

We join forces with over 30 clinicians practicing across the globe to perfect what we do and how we do it. You'll work with clinicians who have up-to-date knowledge for greater clinical effectiveness.

About Cincinnati: "The Paris of America"

  Your couples retreat destination: Cincinnati.

According to Wikipedia, Cincinnati is the fastest-growing economic power in the Midwestern United States. In the late 1800s, Cincinnati was commonly referred to as the "Paris of America" due to such ambitious architectural projects as the Music Hall, Cincinnatian Hotel, and Shillito Department Store.

You can visit Arnold's Bar and Grill in downtown Cincinnati. It is the oldest bar in the USA. Head over on Saturday night and make it an intimate date night.

Heads up golf enthusiasts! There are 38 golf courses in Cincinnati alone.

  Where to stay?

Some couples ask us to suggest lodging. They want a couples counseling vacation or romantic getaway in addition to expert help. They imagine indulging in relaxation complete with a hot tub and massage.

21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati

609 Walnut St, Cincinnati, OH 45202

This Cincinnati hotel has an art gallery and rooftop bar and is very close to the Aronoff Center for the Arts. They offer a restaurant, a full-service spa, a steam shower, and heated floors; however, it does not feature a swimming pool.

Each guest room is decorated with modern furnishings with en suite whirlpool tub. A fitness and business center are provided.

The restaurant and bar serve modern cuisine from local farms. The Taft Museum of Art and Sawyer Point Park are both 1 mile from the hotel. Fountain Square is a 5-minute walk away.

About Cleveland: "America's North Coast"

 Your couple's retreat destination: Cleveland.

Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland, Ohio is a land of state parks, museums, and the Cleveland Zoo, a 165-acre home to over 33,000 animals. Not least of its residents is newborn Kunda, a baby lowland gorilla, and two-year-old buddy Kayembe. Can't make it to the zoo?  These two are relaxing and entertaining enough to watch in your room on Netflix's Baby Gorilla Cam.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland serves as a beacon for music enthusiasts, providing a comprehensive and immersive experience that pays homage to the genre's vibrant history and enduring influence. It is both a live music venue and a museum. It's just one of the many places to visit in Cleveland.

Inn of Chagrin

87 West Street Chagrin Falls, OH 44022

(440) 247-1200

admin@innofchagrin.com

Patrons call the Inn of Chagrin "delightful." They note an exceptionally warm and welcoming staff, gorgeous, freshly redecorated rooms, and comfortable beds.

This inn is just short of what one would consider luxury accommodations. It's a type of bed and breakfast, but the breakfast is less than ideal. Choose the great diner down.

They'll provide a bouquet for the room upon request, so go ahead, scatter a few rose petals. It has been recently remodeled by American Fashion Designer, Christian Siriano. This fifteen-room inn has fine dining, boutique shopping, theater, arts, and a waterfall all within walking distance.

Do take the seven minute drive, however, for a couples massage at Luxe Spa. You deserve it after your hard work at your intimate couples therapeutic retreat.

John Gottman could watch a videotape for only three minutes and predict with 96% accuracy whether these couples would end up divorcing. This takes practice, not magic. Our clinicians learn this skill as part of our Gottman training. In our retreats, we tape a couple, just like Gottman did, to learn what's not working. Then, we teach each of you what changes are needed to become one of the "Masters of Relationships."

Fees for the Intensive

Intensive retreat prices for a weekend are between $3500 and $7000 depending upon the education, location, and experience of your therapist. Additional days can also be arranged. Payment is due at the time of booking and paid for by credit card. We regret not being able to hold dates without payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are our most frequent inquiries about our couples therapy retreats.

Is there a question that remains unanswered?

What do you do at a retreat for couples?

While some retreats are group experiences, ours is a private, one-to-one setting in your therapist's office. Only you, your partner, and one highly trained professional attend.

After a thorough relationship history and individual meetings, your couples therapist provides you evidence-based feedback. This includes a detailed "map" of your relationship strengths and areas needing enhancement. We implement this tailored treatment plan over the remaining time.

Do you work with all types of couples?

Yes! We work with all intimate relationships. This includes couples married long term or newlyweds, GLBTQ+ or straight, monogamous, or in ENM relationships.

Our intensives are non-religious. However, Christian couples can work with our specialized clinicians for a biblically-informed perspective. You do not need to be married to participate.

I am not in Ohio. Do you hold these intensive couples therapy retreat near me?

Yes. We offer many travel destinations across the Midwest, and the entire USA. Additional countries served include Canada, Germany, the UK, and Singapore.

Does insurance cover this?

Insurance companies seldom cover couples counseling, as they usually do not categorize it as "medically necessary." Intensive couples therapy retreats are no different.

*Please note:

Intensive couples therapy, designed to provide focused support, is a tailored service that can be wonderfully beneficial for select couples. However, if one of you has little motivation to work on your marriage in a sincere way or is questioning divorce, couples therapy isn't the approach for you.

In that case, our client services representative may suggest alternative services. If you have started the retreat, your therapist may recommend switching to discernment counseling at any point.

Your willingness and interest in examining your contribution to the state of your marriage is vital. Your desire to improve your relationship is essential for this work to succeed. Active participation leads to success in couples therapy. Doubt and ambivalence about whether you want to stay in this marriage are better served in discernment counseling. If you already know you want to divorce, mediation or divorce counseling is best.

Both of you must be open and willing to change.

Couples therapy (including Gottman Method and Emotionally-focused Couples Therapy) does not work with the following:

  • domestic violence,
  • as suicide prevention,
  • with personality disorders, and other untreated mental illnesses or
  • alcohol and drug abuse that requires in-patient care.

In these situations, seek professional individual mental health services. Finding a mental health professional with specific training is your best option.

Do it for yourself.
Do it for each other.

Schedule a complimentary consult with our team and start on
your path to reignite your relationship.
