Practice Values

I have been a psychologist for 14 years, over 10 of those helping couples work through relationship challenges.  I particularly enjoy working with couples who think: “No one is going to be able to help us.”  I have had that feeling in my own marriage.  And I know what it is like when you DO finally meet that therapist...that elusive match where you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing there is hope. They get you. And it's genuine.

There are a lot of “unseen and unsaid” experiences that happen between two intimates in the therapy room. When you walk through my door, you have put a lot of trust and faith into reaching out and getting help for your relationship. There are always so many feelings in each of you. Sometimes conflicting feelings. Know that I am honored to be the one you've put your trust in. Together, we'll help you sort those feelings out and work towards a better future for both of you.

I’ve worked with all sorts of couples from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, socio-economic status, sexual orientation/identity, and in all types of professions from students to military or law enforcement. Whether you’ve been married one day, a year or many decades…even if you’re not married at all, I've helped couples at your stage.  All types of committed relationships are welcome, and I have a special place in my heart for those in LGBTQIA families.

Work Summary

I completed an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited pre-doctoral internship at Atascadero State Hospital on the central coast of California in 2007 and became certified as a National Register of Health Service Psychologist in 2018.  I have worked in outpatient community mental health centers, inpatient forensic psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing & long-term care facilities, and with the Veteran’s Health Administration.  I have also provided crisis management and disaster mental health services, both through my professional roles and as a volunteer with the Red Cross.  I have worked with adult clients of all ages, including college students, veterans, and older adults.

I specialize in providing therapy to individuals, couples, and groups facing challenges with relationships, depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, grief & loss, life transitions, sexual-identity, and trauma.  I also conduct cognitive, personality, compensation& pension, and forensic assessments for those needing further diagnostic clarification, supporting documentation for reasonable accommodation in school/work and other testing needs.

In my work with individuals and groups I utilize a person-centered approach to treatment that focuses on developing problem-solving and coping skills through the use of Mindfulness/Stress Reduction, Seeking Safety, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques.  In my work with couples, I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy techniques and I have completed advanced training in the method.

Overall, I believe that each client grows by becoming experts in knowing themselves. As you gain clarity, you become better able to find more exacting answers to what you need for yourself and your intimate relationships.  We will work together to explore and uncover your inner strengths so that you can face life’s challenges with a renewed sense of confidence and well-being.

"Fly Me" Therapy

I have an Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC) from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Board (ASPPB) through PSYPACT that allows me Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAP) in person across the country.

It's a growing number of states that have authorized psychologist with this designation. Currently this list includes: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia. Kansas - becomes Effective January 1, 2022 and Maine this October 2021.

What this means is that in addition to working with you online, I can also travel and work with you in your locale.

You take care of my hotel and travel. We'll meet in your area to work over the weekend. See our client service reps for more details.

Personally Speaking

I am a third generation Mexican American, born and raised in El Paso, TX, I am bilingual English/Spanish speaking.

Most of my free time is spent one of three ways:

1. Decompressing/relaxing by watching television or movies

2.  Listening to audiobooks, and

3. (and by far my favorite) playing with my nephew and nieces.

Family time is how I recharge.

My spouse and I love being godparents to my brother’s children.  We also love traveling with our extended family to do anything Disney related.  We are huge Disney fans: Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney. If Disney does it, we either have done it or are planning on doing it!

I also enjoy cuddling up on the couch with one of my many fur babies; we have 9 cats and 3 dogs.  If I had the space, I think I’d open up a pet rescue because the word is out in our neighborhood and sometimes they just show up on our porch waiting for some food and a snuggle.

El Paso, Tx Office

El Paso, TX is the 6th largest city in Texas and sits on the border with Las Cruces, New Mexico and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.  A visit to El Paso means a chance to experience the authentic Southwest in a way like never before: delicious food/drinks, colorful music, majestic mountain views and impressive sunsets.

When you arrive at the El Paso International Airport, it’s just a short drive to two great hotels I'd recommend: either the Hotel Paso del Norte (https://www.hotelpdn.com/) or The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park (https://www.plazahotelelpaso.com/).  Both options offer luxury suite accommodations, casual/fine dining, and are in walking distance of the historical San Jacinto Plaza and Plaza Theater.
